Triangular Trade


- The Triangular Trade was a series of trade routes connecting the American colonies (including the West Indies), England, and Africa.

Sample Trade Routes:



Route I:

New England merchants exported rum, iron, and gunpowder to Africa in exchange for slaves and gold



The slaves and gold were brought to the West Indies where they were traded for molasses and suger.



The sugar and molasses were brought back to New England where it was used to make rum.



Route 2:


New England merchants exported grain, lumber, and fish to the West Indies in exchange for sugar, molasses, and fruit.


The goods were brought to England where they were traded for manufactured goods.


Merchants imported manufactured goods back to New England where they were sold.
