- Urban parks, such as Central Park, were designed in order to preserve open spaces

- Macy’s opens a nine-story building in New York City.

- Baseball, football and basketball gain in popularity.

- Basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1891.

- Vaudeville shows became extremely popular.
