This WebQuest was designed for my eighth grade Social Studies classes. However, it may be appropriate for English Language Arts, ESL, or Art as well. I am expecting that my students gain an understanding and appreciation for the cultural contributions made to America during a particular decade. It is also a goal of mine that my students are able to analyze the material in order to determine the impact that particular cultural elements had on U.S. society, and in turn, the effects U.S. society had on the culture of the time. The results of this research will be condensed into a well-written article. Lastly, another goal of mine is for my students to use this assignment as a creative outlet. Rarely in the core subject areas are the arts incorporated. This project allows students to choose an art form to replicate that they feel comfortable with. Hopefully, the majority of students will enjoy this element of the project, and it may be a good way to boost the self-esteem of students that lack artistic confidence as well as increase their interest in subject of Social Studies as a whole.
