The Task:

In order to complete the task, you will be required to take a trip back through time in order to learn about the movies, music, fashion, sports, art, etc. of the past!


Research:

Each student will be randomly assigned a decade between the 1920's and the 1990's.

Use the websites and databases provided to learn about the cultural contributions made to America during your assigned decade. (cultural contributions may include the following: art, architecture, film, music, television, radio, sports, fashion, fads, theatre, dance, and books/literature)


Identify how the examples reflect the time period being studied.
Examples: 1920’s – The Charleston / Jazz
1950’s – Suburban architecture / television


Now that you are an expert on the cultural contributions made to American history for your assigned decade, let the creativity begin!


Application:

I. PowerPoint Presentation

Analyze your findings and create a PowerPoint presentation showing what you have learned about the contributions your assigned decade has made to America’s cultural history.

II. Artwork / Creative Work

Choose from ONE of the following:

A. Replicate a chosen piece of art originally created during your assigned decade.

B. Create an original piece of art based upon a style created or popularized during your assigned decade.

* Remember, artwork comes in many different forms. Choose one that you will enjoy!

III. Oral Presentation - Create an oral presentation of your artwork that includes the following elements.

- Discuss the origins of the piece you have created, and why it was chosen.

- Explain how your artwork accurately reflects the time in which it was originally created. In other words, put the artwork into the context of your assigned decade.

- If this particular piece of artwork or artistic style has left a lasting impact on American culture, make sure to discuss this as well.
